Personal Responsibility is one of the key concepts to our recovery; it involves taking action and doing what needs to be done to get well and stay well. It’s not easy and it can take time. When we take ownership of our life and our future we can gain back control of our lives. Trust in God, clean house, and attend meetings.

Promises of Recovery
June 29, 2015 by Kayce L.
If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness.
We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.
We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace.
No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others.
That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.
We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows.
Self-seeking will slip away.
Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change.
Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us.
We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.
We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.
Are these extravagant promises? We think not.
They are being fulfilled among us – sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly.
They will always materialize if we work for them.
These promises are my favorite out of all of our readings. When you work the steps these promises do come true. 🙂

Meeting makers Make it
June 22, 2015 by Kayce L.
We don’t have to stay stuck in our misery and discomfort. An immediate option is available that will help us feel better: Go to a meeting, a Twelve Step support group. Why resist what can help us feel better? Taking 1 or 2 hours a week for a meeting can maximize the potential of the remaining 166 hours. We can easily spend a majority of our waking hours obsessing, sitting and doing nothing, lying in the bed feeling depressed, or chasing after other’s people’s needs. There is nothing as invigorating as getting back on track. Going to a meeting.
We need to remember going to meetings helps us in recovery and everyday life.

Resentments
June 16, 2015 by Kayce L.
Resentment is the number one offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else. From it stems all forms of spiritual disease, for we have been not only mentally an physically ill, we have been spiritually sick. When the spiritual malady is overcome, we straighten out mentally and physically. When we harbor such resentments we shut ourselves off from the sunlight of the Spirit. Let go and let God.

Believing in a Higher Power
June 3, 2015 by Kayce L.
We need to ask ourselves but one short question. -“Do I believe, or am I even willing to believe, that there is a Power greater than myself?” As soon as we can say that we do believe, and are willing to believe, we emphatically assure ourselves that we are on our way. It has been repeatedly proven among us that upon this simple cornerstone a wonderfully effective spiritual structure can be built.*
- Once I began to believe I became more connected spiritual, and healing begun.

Admitting Step 1
April 19, 2015 by Kayce L.
In the First Step of Recovery, we need to focus on honesty, open-mindedness, willingness, humility, and acceptance. The First Step starts with admitting the truth about our addiction, and continues with the practice of honesty on a daily basis. When we say “I’m an alcoholic or addict” and “my life is unmanageable” in a meeting, it may be the first truly honest thing we’ve said in a long time.
